Frequently Asked Questions
“How do I contact you for an appointment?”
You are welcome to use the contact form below or the form on the Contact page. After receiving your request, you will be invited to a short introductory video call (15 – 20 min). During this call, we discuss your therapeutic needs and answer any questions you may have about the therapy process. This introductory call is free of charge and helps ensure that therapy is the right fit for you.
“Can I book a first session without the introductory call?”
No. To respect your time, emotional investment, and financial resources, I accept new clients only after an introductory call. This allows us to assess whether my services match your needs and expectations and ensures that therapy begins with clarity and mutual understanding.
“Do I need a referral from my GP (General Practitioner)?”
No referral is required to begin therapy. However, in some situations, I may recommend contacting your GP if we jointly decide that additional medical support or diagnostic evaluation would be beneficial.
“What kind of therapy do you practice?”
I use an integrative therapeutic approach that combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with a Client-Centered framework.
Therapy is a collaborative process. I bring expertise in psychology, and you bring expertise in your own life and experiences. Together, we explore thoughts, emotions, and behavioural patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties, and we introduce practical tools that you can apply in your daily life. This process takes place in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. I work alongside you with the belief that meaningful change comes from increasing awareness, developing new perspectives, and strengthening your ability to respond to challenges with clarity and confidence.
“What does therapy look like?”
During the first sessions, we explore your background, clarify your concerns, and identify your therapy goals. Based on this, we develop an individualized therapeutic plan tailored to your needs. Sessions typically take place weekly or bi-weekly. During therapy, we work together to understand emotional patterns, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and develop healthier ways of coping. You may also be offered practical exercises to support progress between sessions.
As therapy progresses, we regularly review your development and adjust the approach when needed. Over time, therapy helps you strengthen emotional regulation, develop healthier internal dialogue, and gain the tools to navigate challenges independently. When you feel ready, we conclude therapy with a clear understanding of your progress and a plan for maintaining long-term well-being.
“How long does therapy take?”
The duration of therapy varies depending on your individual situation, goals, and the nature of your difficulties. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy, while others prefer longer-term support. A clearer estimate can usually be made after the first few sessions.
“Is the cost of therapy reimbursed by health insurance?”
I do not collaborate directly with Dutch health insurance providers. However, some international health insurance plans may partially reimburse therapy sessions. You may share my AGB code with your insurer to check your reimbursement options. Therapy costs may also be declared in your Dutch annual tax return as non-reimbursed healthcare expenses. Please consult your accountant or tax advisor for guidance.
